Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) – I get more men coming to me who want to get off than you would think.
A a clinician, over the past 10 years I have witnessed the pendulum swing from fear of TRT to exuberance.
Men are starting it younger and younger, most unaware of all the nuances and drawbacks. I see men in their 20’s and 20’s who are destroying their bodies natural production and becoming dependent on it (which happens around 2 years of consistent use).
Men who want children but have destroyed their fertility.
Men who do not regularly monitor their levels are significantly overdoing it, creating issues like increasing their blood thickness, jacking up estrogen levels, and feeling like garbage as their dose begins to wane.
I’m not against TRT at all.
In the right person, administered properly and monitored regularly, it can be a fantastic and safe tool for a better quality of life. It can even DECREASE your risk of heart disease, contrary to popular belief.
But for many, they don’t need it to raise their T levels.
They don’t even need supplements like tongkat ali or fagodia, which I don’t see move the needle much anyways.
What you do need is the right data. Not some cookie-cutter panel you order online.
The labs need to be tailored to your clinical picture based on a complete understanding of your health history. (This is why I learned the value of a 90 minute comprehensive case review).
Then, once you have the right data you correct the imbalances you uncover in sequence.
Too many practitioners have no methodology and just throw the kitchen sink at a problem thinking brute force is the way. It’s not.
In fact, I’ve tried this approach when I was first starting out and I’ve been let down more times than I was successful.
The body is a complex of integrated systems and you need to know how those pieces work to get leverage. Leverage is just my fancy way of saying you get better results by making fewer, more targeted changes.
You don’t need to overcomplicate things, but you do need to do the right things.
